Volkswagen Electric Vehicle

The Volkswagen brand is readying to launch the next generation of electric vehicles in 2024, basing them on a fully electric platform. The platform will be shared with Ford which means the new Volkswagen Transporter will no longer be built in Hanover, Germany. The Transporter will be presented as a shuttle or minibus that seats nine passengers and offers plenty of cargo space. An already-released electric van is the impressive Volkswagen ID. Buzz, built on the MEB Platform, and slated to arrive on US shores shortly.

North America ID. Buzz

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is already being sold outside North America but will hit the U.S. shores by 2024. North America will only get the long-wheelbase model, and this electric van will arrive on June 2 (2024). Volkswagen even has plans to make June 2 the International Volkswagen Bus Day on the calendar.

“Whether you call them Buses, Bullis, or Kombis, the legacy Type 2s have left on modern culture is unmatched. As we continue to introduce the T2’s 21st Century electric successor, the ID. Buzz, we’re thrilled to create this annual day of celebration for Volkswagen bus fans and enthusiasts everywhere.” -Cameron Batten, chief communications officer for VW Group in America.

Most consumers are already aware of what the ID. Buzz looks like even though the U.S. isn’t getting the two-row model, but it will have the same headlights and trim style. It needs to be determined how much larger the newer model will be or if the EV requires an additional battery pack. As of now, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz has an 82.0-kWh battery with one electric motor, producing 201 horsepower. When the time gets closer, more information will be revealed about this three-row electric van.

As for the interior, most things stay the same, which includes a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch touchscreen. The electric van will have eight USB-C ports so all passengers can charge their phones. The U.S. model has the largest panoramic sunroof on any Volkswagen vehicle, which is 67.4 inches long.

Self-Driving ID. Buzz

There will be ten Volkswagen ID.Buzz vehicles will soon be on the streets of Austin, Texas, to test out independent driving technology. The ten electric vans will test the technology that Volkswagen is working on. Volkswagen of America also plans to test the automatic self-driving in four other cities in the U.S. Every van included in this test will have a driver riding along for safety measures, safety sensors, and cameras. Volkswagen has already tested this out in Germany, but this will be the first time in the United States.
