Volkswagen Uses Hyundai Distributor For Its New EV Platform

Volkswagen announced they will use Hyundai Motor Group’s leading supplier for Battery Systems Assemblies (BSA). The BSA will be used for VW’s next-generation EV platform, which makes this a big deal for Hyundai Mobis. This Battery Systems Assemblies helps combine the battery management system, battery pack, and more to ensure it’s a safe and methodical process. This operation will ensure that the electric vehicle runs smoothly and performs at its best. The details of this large deal have yet to be released, but in any case, this will surely benefit the Volkswagen and Hyundai brands.
2023 VW ID.4 EV
There is a new Volkswagen manufacturing facility in Chattanooga, TN, home to the 2023 VW ID.4. The new ID.4 is an electric vehicle with many updated features. However, the design still sticks to loyal VW customers. Just because the ID.4 is an EV doesn’t mean it detracts from the original gas-powered VW look and feel. Any driver will notice the changes but will still know it’s keeping to the original roots of any Volkswagen vehicle.
New features for the ID.4 include a standard 12-inch infotainment screen, intelligent park assist, USB-C charging, new wheel designs, and more. Plug and Charge charging is available at Electrify America stations. The car’s interior has leather seats and door paneling with a high-quality instrument cluster. There are also buttons on the steering wheel, CarPlay, and Android Auto. The ID.4 comfortably accommodates up to five passengers and has good storage space. Higher trim models offer heated and cooled seats and a seat massage feature.
The vehicle’s exterior stays the same as last year’s model, plus a few added features, like park assist and Memory park functions. The most affordable car is the 62kWh entry-level ID.4, and the price starts at $37,495 (plus destination fee) and offers 209 miles of range and 201 horsepower. Another model is the ID.4 Pro, a RWD with an 82 kWh battery that has up to 275 miles of range for a cost of $42,495 (plus destination fee) and a 201 horsepower motor. Lastly, the ID.4 AWD Pro has 295 horsepower with 255 miles of range for $46,295 (plus destination fee). It’s nice to know that any customer who wants to transition to an electric vehicle can do so by still staying loyal to the Volkswagen brand.
ID.4 Approved For $7,500 Tax Credit
There is excellent news for the electric Volkswagen ID.4 crossover SUV, which is how the ID.4 can get a full $7,500 federal EV tax credit for all trim levels. Volkswagen is the first international automaker to have an electric vehicle that can get full credit. Initially, the ID.4 was not on the EV list to qualify for the tax credit, but the federal government recently added it back.
When the $7,500 tax credit is added, the ID.4 will be one of the most affordable EVs. The Inflation Reduction Act sanctions the tax credit and has very specific rules that have to be followed for assembly, battery materials, and the supply chain. To qualify for the tax credit, the EV and its battery need to be sourced and built in North America or with an approved trade partner.
