The Anticipation Is High For The New Electric Volkswagen Golf Hatchback

Volkswagen Golf EV

Volkswagen just announced they are working on a brand-new electric version of the Golf hatchback. This new model will be built in Wolfsburg, Germany, and will be one of many EVs built on this EV platform called SSP. SSP will work with the MEB platform used for the ID.4, ID. Buzz and ID.7 vehicles, and the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) as well. It seems  the new Golf EV won’t be unveiled until 2028, but the ID.2all model is slated to arrive by 2025 in Europe. There are rumors that the Volkswagen ID.2all could come to the U.S., but only time will tell.

Golf Brand Becoming Electric

Customers are so excited to know that the Volkswagen Golf will most likely be entering the EV world. The Volkswagen Golf will probably be riding alongside its ID vehicle series. In 2020, Volkswagen no longer continued making its e-golf electric vehicle as the automaker focused on a new stage of EVs. Last year, the production of its Golf models ended in North America, but that doesn’t mean that the Golf brand is finished forever.

Alongside Ford and GM, Volkswagen is making popular cars electric and is doing so with the ID brand. There aren’t plans about making the Golf brand with a number like the ID.3 but rather follow suit like the ID.Buzz and call it ‘ID Golf.’ Rumors were going around about the ID.3 replacing the VW Golf, but for Volkswagen, these are two very different cars. The eighth-generation Golf model plans to retire between 2027-28, making room for the ‘ID Golf.’ The VW Golf is a trendy car model amongst consumers, so it only makes sense to have it transition to being electric.

2026 Volkswagen Golf GTI EV

Volkswagen is working hard to produce a new car to enter the EV world, the Golf GTI EV, which will be in its eighth generation. A big goal for the latest Golf GTI EV model is to offer an easy and fun way to drive the vehicle. The Volkswagen Golf GTI EV will be made on the MEB 21 EV platform and produce 320 horsepower with the new APP550 motor, like the ID.7 sedan. The all-new Volkswagen Golf GTI EV will cost around $40,000 (plus destination fee) and is expected to go on sale in 2026.

VW ID.Golf

Volkswagen has no plans to let the Golf brand be left behind and not turn the Golf vehicle electric. The Golf brand will be turned into the Volkswagen ID.2 while built on the MEB-Plus platform. Volkswagen stopped producing the e-golf electric vehicle back in December 2020 and focused more on the newer generation of EVs, but the Golf brand was still in the wind.

Volkswagen has been focusing on the ID brand, so there are plans to bring an ID.Golf to the lineup. According to some sources, Volkswagen’s smallest car got a new look in and out and may be renamed as the ID.Golf. The ID.2 will be lightweight and offer a single motor (FWD).
