The New 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 Comes With Big Changes

A lot of changes came to the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 bigger battery 82kWh version only, unlike the base model ID.4 which pretty much stayed the same. One of the many great things about the ID.4 is that it qualifies for the $7,500 US federal EV tax credit. A few of the impressive changes include more power and more productivity because of an improved motor system. The RWD now produces 282 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque. Another outstanding feature is the new ChatGPT voice assistant setup which is a great help for drivers who need to focus on the road but also may need to look something up at the same time.
More 2024 Upgrades
Major updates come to the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 interior, including more power and a better infotainment setup. The power increases are due to new motors from the ID.7 model; the most significant difference is the rear-wheel drive for the ID.4 car models. To prove this, the horsepower goes from 201 to 282, and the all-wheel-drive goes from 295 to 330 horsepower.
As for the infotainment, the upgrades also come from the ID.7 and improve the ID.4 immensely. It’s better customizable, the climate menu is easier to use, and the screen is now 12.9 inches with lit-up slider touch buttons. The new and improved Volkswagen ID.4 will be hitting dealerships soon and will be eligible for full federal tax credits, which is a significant plus for car buyers.
Approved Tax Credit
There is excellent news for the electric Volkswagen ID.4 crossover SUV, which is how the ID.4 can get a full $7,500 federal EV tax credit for all trim levels. Volkswagen is the first international automaker to have an electric vehicle that can get full credit. Initially, the ID.4 was not on the EV list to qualify for the tax credit, but the federal government recently added it back on.
The 2023 ID.4 has two different battery sizes, 62kWh and 82kWh, plus two powertrains. The standard model has a 62kWh battery with a range of 209 miles and a starting cost of $38,995 (plus destination fee). The ID.4 Pro comes with an 82kWh battery and 275 miles of range, costing $43,995 (plus the destination fee).
When the $7,500 tax credit is added, the ID.4 will be one of the most affordable EVs. The Inflation Reduction Act sanctions the tax credit and has very specific rules that have to be followed for assembly, battery materials, and the supply chain. To qualify for the tax credit, the EV and its battery need to be sourced and built in North America or with an approved trade partner.
2023 VW ID.4
There is a new Volkswagen manufacturing facility in Chattanooga, TN, home to the 2023 VW ID.4. The ID.4 is an electric vehicle with many updated features. However, the design still sticks to loyal VW customers. Just because the ID.4 is an EV doesn’t mean it takes away from the original gas-powered VW look and feel. Any driver will notice the changes but will still know it’s keeping to the original roots of any Volkswagen vehicle. The vehicles made in Chattanooga sink up nicely with the cars brought over from Germany.
Some features for the ID.4 include a standard 12-inch infotainment screen, intelligent park assist, USB-C charging, new wheel designs, and more. Plug and Charge charging is available at Electrify America stations. For the interior of the car, there are leather seats and door paneling with a high-quality instrument cluster. There are also buttons on the steering wheel, CarPlay, and Android Auto. The ID.4 seats up to five passengers comfortably and has good storage space. Higher trim models offer heated and cooled seats and a seat massage feature.
