Volkswagen Is On The Hunt For A New Battery Plant In North America
There was a statement released by Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume on how the company is searching for a home for its very first battery cell factory in North America. The CEO is looking into making Canada an option, but that decision is currently still in the air. By Volkswagen joining the EV production footprint taking place in Tennessee, the Group will hopefully get to meet the battery manufacturing demands listed in the Inflation Reduction Act for cars like the ID.4. The Volkswagen Group is contributing a lot of time and money into becoming an all-electric company.
Volkswagen has taken charge of doing its best to support the growth of getting to the point of zero-emission vehicles. For the US, Volkswagen has improved production to support the EV manufacturing process, where it distributes the ID.4 models. The current tax credits for the ID.4 meet the requirements for $7,500 in federal tax credits, and unfortunately, those numbers will be less because of the Inflation Reduction Act. The ID.4 may still qualify for some level of that credit because it was manufactured in the US.
To reiterate, the CEO of Volkswagen is working hard on bringing battery manufacturing to North America and supporting EV production in the US. With Canada possibly being a reasonable choice for Volkswagen’s first battery factory outside of Europe, the CEO must ensure it meets the standards. Even though European automakers don’t agree with the Inflation Reduction Act, on the contrary, the legislation intends to bring more EV production to North America. With more battery production being added to the continent, more of VW Group’s automotive brands might be qualified for tax credits. The new and improved VW Scout can be one of those car brands, especially since it’s the hot new EV in the Volkswagen lineup.
2023 ID.4
There is a new Volkswagen manufacturing facility in Chattanooga, TN, home to the 2023 VW ID.4. The new ID.4 is an electric vehicle with many updated features. Just because the ID.4 is an EV doesn’t mean it takes away from the original gas-powered VW look and feel. Any driver will notice the changes but will still know it’s keeping to the original roots of any Volkswagen vehicle. New features for the ID.4 include a standard 12-inch infotainment screen, intelligent park assist, USB-C charging, new wheel designs, and more.
The vehicle’s exterior stays the same as last year’s model, plus a few added features, like, park assist and Memory park functions. The most affordable car is the 62kWh entry-level ID.4, and the price starts at $37,495 (plus destination fee) and offers 209 miles of range and 201 horsepower. It’s nice to know that any customer who wants to transition to an electric vehicle can do so by still staying loyal to the Volkswagen brand. The ID.4 is so impressive it even won “Electric Vehicle of the Year” for the first time ever.
